The
Nationals are also proud to announce that Joe Solomon has replaced
Kevin Sandy as General Manager of the Under-19 team. Sandy resigned
because of personal reasons, but will remain with the program in a
different capacity.
Solomon has an extensive playing
career, beginning at Lafayette High School in upstate New York and
going on to the U.S. Naval Academy and Cornell University. Solomon
also spent almost twenty years as a goaltender for the Iroquois
Nationals, most recently as part of the team that competed in the
2006 World Lacrosse Championships. “It is a privilege to have the
opportunity to give back to the Iroquois Nationals. This program
has evolved immensely since its acceptance into the ILF allowing
many of us the opportunity to play the game we love in venues across
the World while representing the Iroquois Confederacy. I hope to
provide the logistical support needed by Coach Gray, the Coaching
Staff and the players to insure their needs are met throughout the
World Games. With our roster and staff there, is no reason the
Nationals shouldn’t compete at a high level during the Under 19
tournament,” said Solomon.
The Nationals completed the winter
portion of the team’s preparation for the 2008 Under-19 World
Lacrosse Championships by beating both the Rochester Blaze and
Ontario Edge in scrimmages, back on December 16th.
Emmett Printup and Myles Thompson led the Nationals on offence, with
the team again sporting a stingy defense. “The team has come
together nicely during the first part of our preparations. I can’t
wait to get back at it during the spring,” said Gray.
